What Makes Us Unique?

Located in Gatton, within the University of Queensland – Gatton Campus, our centre is centrally and conveniently located for University Staff and Students to access and is also easily accessible for families in the wider community. Our location is also perfect for those who to travel between Brisbane and Toowoomba for employment or study. Our operating hours (6am to 6pm) provide working families with greater to quality care through long day care and sessional care options. Our centre offers a courtesy bus that does routine and casual collections and drop offs to assist families with greater access opportunities from the surrounding suburbs of Gatton.

We provide 3 meals per day for children that are nutritious and well balanced and are prepared, and delivered daily, by our on-site centre cook who has a Food Handling certification. Our large outdoor play space provides children with an adventure playground and sensory area, extensive bike track, vegetable gardens, swings, sand pit, fishpond and natural garden to explore.

Many of our families also take advantage of our Before and After School Care Program which services numerous Primary Schools in the Lockyer Valley. We also have school holidays covered as we provide a Vacation Care Program for school aged children during each season of school holidays. This program is developed by our qualified staff in consultation with children and families to ensure we provide an engaging and interacting assortment of activities across the holidays that caters to children’s interest and family budgets.

Government Approved Kindergarten Program

Our Kindergarten Program runs 5 days per week with a Bachelor Qualified Early Childhood teacher. We engage our local primary schools to ensure we are supporting the children’s transition to school to a high standard. Our educational programs are based upon the Early Years Learning Framework and Queensland Kindergarten Guidelines. They have a strong emphasis on supporting positive relationships between children, families and educators that establish long lasting links to the wider community. With a focus on the natural environment, our daily programs offer children a wide range of exciting learning opportunities that supports them to develop at their own pace.

Meet Our Manager

My name is Kathleen Thompson and I have been with Free Range Kids since May 2017 and in the capacity of Director at Gatton since December 2020. I hold a Diploma of Children’s Services and am currently enrolled in my Bachelor of Early Childhood / Primary Education. Over the last 20 years, I have worked in a variety of roles within the Early Learning Sector.

I believe that early childhood education is fundamental in setting children up to succeed later in life. I love being involved with that process and contributing to a child’s foundation years.
